Are my feet on the ground yet?

I’m thinking they won’t be for a while :)

Sweetie keeps laughing, every time I stare at my ring, or look at him and say “we’re really going to get married!”  Saturday night I was bouncing around and grinning from ear to ear.  It’s not my fault, I blame him, he made me so VERY happy :) He made me very happy beforehand as well, this is just well, officially happy! (this is a very good thing!)

Yesterday we spent looking at cruise websites and talking about the kind of wedding that we want.   Neither of us want to go through the hassle of a huge and drama filled wedding.  He’s been married before and did the big shindig thing, and well, I just don’t see the need to have a huge churchy event when I’m not a churchy girl, and I don’t want to invite a million people I don’t know very well to share in an event that they really don’t want to participate in.  I used to want the big white dress wedding, but I’ve grown up – I’m 35(ish) and can’t see the use in wasting a whole lot of money on one day.  So, we’ve decided to have a small family only wedding, and take a very nice honeymoon.

I just can’t believe even for a small family only wedding, how much PLANNING has to be done.  Whew!

Because we more than likely will want to take a vacation every year on our anniversary, we’re trying to schedule the wedding around when we want to honeymoon.  That way, we’ll be able to guarantee a fairly nice vacation when we want to take one in the future.  The way things are currently looking, we’re looking at late February or early March for the honeymoon cruise. (Either the Caribbean or the Mexican Riviera)  That means the wedding will be mid to late February.  Since I’m limited on vacation time, we’re probably going to get married on one weekend, work a week, and then leave for our honeymoon the next weekend.  (That was Sweetie’s idea, and well, I think it’s a pretty good one since I’m limited to what I have available to me).

Next week, we’re going home to PA for Thanksgiving.  At that time, I know we’ll spend a fair amount of time talking to Mom and the family about arrangements.  Originally I thought we could get married at the house by the pool under the pergola – but I’m thinking the pool won’t be open in February, and it will be just entirely too cold :)    I want them to be involved, but not overwhelmed by everything – because well, Mom simply can’t, and I don’t want to make her feel like she has to contribute where she isn’t really able to.

More to come on Wedding plans as they are firmed up and finalized. :)
