Pay it Forward

Yesterday, Beth issued a challenge of sorts to the people who read her sites. I decided to take her up on her challenge of doing something nice for kids who are yours.  (Not that hard there, seeing we don’t have any munchkins).

I’ll issue the same challenge to my readers – in your life – you’re blessed – we all are, in some way shape or form.  But there are others who are not as blessed as we are, and sometimes need a little bit of kindness extended to them.  Be it in the form of a smile, a hand, a shoulder.  Something that will remind them that humanity is kind and just. (Because, well, I truly believe that it is, deep down, somewhere, humanity is still a good thing).

What I’m doing, is getting in touch with the local chapter of the Ronald McDonald House Charity – (There are two nearby, one in Durham, and one in Chapel Hill) to see what I can do to donate cards and card supplies to the kids and families who are staying in the RMHC houses while they are going through treatment at the local hospitals.  This is something that I tried to do when I was home in PA with the Hershey chapter, and something that Stampin’ Up! sponsors.  I really think that the organization is a good one, and provides a lot of benefits to the people in the areas they are in.

Each month, I’ll be hopefully giving a supply of cards and perhaps some card supplies to the RMH in Durham.  If possible, I’d like to spend a few hours at the house, teaching kids and families how to stamp.  Something to get their minds off of what they’re going through right now.

Sweetie and I have also talked about volunteering with Hospice.  The organization has helped both of us, and our families, and I think the best way to thank them, is to volunteer our time to spend with others who need a little bit of support.  I’ll be in touch with them this week as well, to see what we can do, and what we need to do to get started.

But, I look at it as a way to spend time doing what I love to do (stamping) with someone I love more than anything (Sweetie), and making some other people happy at the same time.  It simply can’t be a bad thing.

So, if you have any inclination to help people out – in any way that you can, please do so.  Let me know what you’ve chosen to do, or go visit Beth and see what she’s got going on.  In some small way, perhaps we can all make this world a little bit of a better place to be.
