Getting Crafty!

Monday Recap

It’s COLD here today.  Dangit.  Was just above 40 when I left for work today, and it’s not to get out of the 50’s according to the weather channel.  At least it’s sunny.  Cold and rainy Mondays really stink.

We had a pretty busy weekend – it wasn’t what we were planning on doing, but I think it was a pretty good weekend.

Sweetie and I had been talking about redoing the one bedroom upstairs and making it into my craft studio.  This is so I have a place to put all my stampy stuff and a place to work when I’m finally all moved in.  There were two fairly full bookshelves in there, along with a huge black metal canopy bed, and some other smallish pieces of furniture.  It’s a good sized room, and had a lot of potential to it.

One night last week, Sweetie and I had gone through the books in that room and figured out which ones we wanted to keep.  That still left a whole bunch of books to figure out what to do with.  Well, when I got home from work on Friday, Sweetie was busy carting them all down to stack in our living room.  The piles are taller than all of the pets except for Nikki!  And yes, we took pictures!   While he was doing that, I started some laundry, and we both tried to figure out where we wanted to put the furniture when the room was all emptied out.    We’d talked about painting the room previously, but we’d not decided for certain if we were going to or not.  When we went to the Parade of Homes a few weeks ago, we saw a few colors that we really liked.  (Sherman Williams – Boyoant Blue and Techno Gray).  So, Sweetie had stopped and picked up a few paint chips.  We decided that the Techno Gray was too dark for the room we were painting, but one called Window Pane was pretty and light enough to not be overwhelming.  So, we wandered off to Lowes for a substitute.  We ended up settling with Olympic’s Whitewater.  It’s a very pale green that matches quite well with the slate blue carpet that’s in the room already.

Saturday morning we got up and emptied out the room – moving the furniture onto the landing between the bird room and the guest room.  The cats were all distraught because their ‘area’ was all mixed up.  But they quickly got over it.  We had found these neat little slidey furniture mover things a few weeks ago when we were talking about moving the furniture out of the master bedroom in order to get new carpet installed.  We used those to move the dresser, the desk, the bookshelves.  And man, I don’t think I’ll EVER move furniture without them again.  I can’t lift a whole lot, but I sure can push things around.  And these things made the furniture slide SO easily.  One wise investment, that’s for certain!

We spent the morning trimming up the room with paint brushes.  Sweetie did the ladder part, I did the crawling around on the floor.  After we were done with the paint brushes, we let the trim dry, went out and ran a few errands, and came home.   Sweetie finished the walls with the roller, and it REALLY looked nice.  (Still does too!)

Sunday morning, we took apart the canopy bed that we no longer wanted in there.  We’d bought a new bed frame to put the double bed on and moved that over into the corner under the windows.  We ran out (more errands!) for power strips and a few other little things we wanted for the room.  Got home, and finished putting everything back where we wanted it.  Sweetie had some boxes of things he wanted to go through that were in the closet in that room, so he sorted through them and I sat and kept him company.  (And laughed when we found MORE books!)

I have all sorts of ideas on how I want to decorate the room, where I want to put certain things, how I want to organize the things on shelves.  Tonight we’re going to Michaels, photo boxes are on sale, so I’ll be picking up a bunch of them that match. (The ones I currently have are mismatched).  I’ll be going home the first weekend in November to pack up the craft room as best as I can, so I can bring it home and we can load the room and I can actually have my studio with me again.  I really do miss it!  There are so many things that I want to do, but not much time (or chance) to do it.  With Christmas coming, it will be handy to have it all near.  Although I’m thinking at least one or two weekends a month, we’ll be going home to go through my town house and clear it all out – moving down only those things I really want or need.

Yep.  I am OFFICALLY moving.  I hope to have the house cleaned out by the end of January at the very latest.  It’s tough with our work schedules, and our trip to Disney in December, but I’m thinking that in November we’ll be able to make a huge dent in things over Thanksgiving weekend and go from there.  It’s something I’m looking forward to – because this living in ‘multiple’ locations is driving me nuts.

Back to work – more later.
